Montenegro is a country in southeastern Europe that lies on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. It borders with Serbia to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the north and west, Kosovo to the east, Albania to the southeast, and the Adriatic Sea and Croatia to the southwest. Its current population is just over 620,000 and its capital and the largest city is Podgorica which is administrative hub of Montenegro. Montenegro is fast gaining a reputation as one of the world’s top tourist destinations. This small country between mountains and sea offers unique and rare landscapes permeated with amazing contrasts, colours and emotions. Montenegro with its fascinating nature and places amazes its visitors. Even its inhabitants have still to discover hidden places. The geographical location of Montenegro, its climate and natural resources are key assets driving development and wealth creation. The relief is very diverse and attractive for nature-based tourism and activities. It consisted of eight beautiful canyons, a lot of lakes, rivers, mountains and 3,500 speleological objects. Five national protected areas in Montenegro have the status of national parks: Lovćen, Durmitor, Biogradska gora, Lake Skadar and Prokletije. The country is divided into three regions: Costal Region, Central, and Mountain-valley Region. The total length of the seacoast of Montenegro is around 300 kilometers. About 80% of coast is made out of rocks, with great sea depths just by the coast, while the rest of coast is shallow with a sand pebble bottom. There are so many places on shore and by the sea that are reasonable for tourism and recreation. The mild Mediterranean climate makes long hot and dry summers and short mild winters in Montenegro. The swimming season can last five to six months. Moving inland the climate becomes progressively more continental, with colder winters, also due to the higher altitude. The country has two airports, in Podgorica and Tivat which are really close to city centers. An interesting fact is that here in Montenegro you have the opportunity to visit the beautiful beaches and mountainous areas in one day, where in four hours you can go by car from the sea to mountains.
